Painting with neutral colors means using lots of colors, then hiding them from the eye.

Birds' nests

I have always enjoyed drawing and painting birds' nests--technically, my interest lies in the intricacy balanced by neutral color, with the challenge of making a nest look like a nest and not a bowl or a pile of sticks. On the subject itself: it's architecture created by birds!

Here are two new paintings, "Pansies and Tulips"which is 24x30, and "Thoughts of Spring" 30x30. Both of these paintings began as one color palette and shifted into another. I struggled with myself, forcing myself not to smooth out all the gradations and paint layers.
